What is the European Accessibility Act (EAA)?
The European Accessibility Act (EAA) is an EU directive that standardises accessibility requirements for products and services, particularly in the digital space. It ensures that websites, mobile apps, e-commerce platforms and other digital services are accessible to people with disabilities. The EAA came into effect on 28 June 2025.
Why the EAA matters to most businesses
If your organisation sells or ships to customers in EEA countries, your website must be accessible or you may face fines, required changes, or restrictions.
Non-compliance can damage your reputation and limit growth in one of the world’s largest consumer markets.

User experience & inclusivity
Accessibility improves usability for everyone and ensures your content is available to all. An accessible site doesn’t just demonstrate good practice—it also supports SEO, reduces bounce rates and boosts conversion rates. In short, accessibility benefits your users and your business.
Does the EAA apply if we’re not based in Europe?
If you sell to, ship to or serve customers in the EU, the EAA may still apply to your organisation. What matters is where your users are located—not where your business is based.
Many other regions have their own accessibility regulations, so wherever you operate, working towards accessibility compliance is a smart and responsible step.
